Having trouble sleeping? CBD might help.

CBD for Sleep

Over 75% of people in America report difficulty sleeping at least once per week. But much like prescription pain medications, sleep medications can be dangerous or pose significant side effects. Many people looking for alternatives to prescription drugs have found relief in cannabis products such as CBD Tinctures for Sleep.

Is CBD Safe?

One of the reasons that people are drawn to CBD is because it’s safe. In 2018, the World Health Organization found that CBD was safe, non-addictive and non-psychoactive. Further research on CBD supports this evidence, leading more and more people to try CBD for pain, sleep and anxiety. Joseph Maroon, M.D., a clinical professor and neurosurgeon at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center,  has researched the relationship and impacts of cannabis on the brain. He reports that, “CBD has properties that could help some people sleep better. Most notably, it appears to ease anxiety and pain, both of which can make it harder to fall asleep or stay asleep.”

Calm Down!

CBD calms the nervous system

Scientists are finding that CBD appears to have a calming affect on the central nervous system. This could be one reason why people find relief using CBD to fall - and stay - asleep. But how much is enough? And is there such thing as too much? Much like vitamins and medicines, people respond better to certain dosages. For this reason dosage must be determined by the user and experimented with over time. Some of the research suggests that a good starting place is 40mg of CBD per day. Another study found that a dosage of 160mg of CBD increased sleep duration. That might seem like a lot to some people, however, the research shows that even daily doses of 1500mg of CBD has zero negative side effects.

The America Sleep Association Weighs In

The America Sleep Association wrote an article about CBD where they referenced a study published in the Permanente Journal. 72 adults with anxiety and poor sleep were given 25 mg of CBD in capsule form. After the first month, anxiety scores decreased in 79% of the people while sleep scores improved in 66% of the participants. These findings suggest that CBD decreases sleep difficulties and helps with anxiety.

Should you try CBD?

Given that CBD is safe, non-addictive and non-psychoactive, people suffering from difficulty sleeping should definitely reach out to their doctor to determine whether they should try it.
